Never gonna happen…. we don’t have the technology for this to be plausible

    2. No, Japan doesn’t.

Some random company with no capability to achieve it made a render.

    3. They are talking about transferring the energy from the moon to earth via microwaves and lasers. Can someone explain if this is viable for really large amounts of energy we would be talking about?

    4. oh yeah? And I want to build the USS Enterprise for the intergalactic endeavours

    5. Everyone has a great idea and no one will deliver on anything. There are countless other ways that aren’t out of a sci-fi movie that could deliver cleaner energy here on earth, and not require 50 years and trillions of dollars for technology that doesn’t even exist yet to finish.

Hi Reddit, Japan here, how y’all doing? Just wanted to drop by and say this is the first I’m hearing about this. Peace, out.

Not entirely implausible… once we’ve established a permanent moon base with launch capabilities and serious industrial manufacturing.

I’d say a century out, at the earliest, barring some major changes in priorities and/or tech.

That’s a 6000 mile long solar power system, and transmitting power 250,000 miles.

Ok. Sure guys. You do that.

      >On Earth, specialized antennas called **rectennas** capture the microwaves and convert them back into electricity for the power grid.

      Japanese and the kinky stuff…

      I’m laughing hard BTW.

I think in the next 20-30 years we’ll likely see the start of an ambitious space project but absolutely nothing near this scale.

Something akin to orbital mirrors redirecting sunlight onto solar panels on earth or an attempt at a more permanent orbital base, possibly the first space mining project something like that.

    11. But I thought [#🇯🇵](https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/%F0%9F%87%AF%F0%9F%87%B5/) Japan is turning footsteps into electricity! ⚡Using piezoelectric tiles, every step you take generates a small amount of energy. Millions of steps together can power LED lights and displays in busy places like Shibuya Station. A brilliant way to create a sustainable and smart city — turning movement into clean, renewable energy

And the US will be like nah man we straight ans burn fossil fuels with no filter.

    13. And have the universe’s biggest cable connect the earth with the moon? This shit is ridiculous

    14. Endless clean energy for the earth is already readily achievable here on earth, along with solving world hunger.

    15. There are tons of desserts on earth that solar farm can be installed. Isn’t the energy transferred be much cheaper?

Even with endless free energy the psychopaths that have power would still manage to engage in endless wars. I really have no hope for humanity even with endless clean energy.

Being accidentally microwaved to death is something I didn’t expect to have on my list of possible apocalypses

    18. Listen, even if this were true…the greedy humans on this planet would never allow it. Sadly.
